About MAIO 2026
What is MAIO?
The Malaysia AI Olympiad is a one-day competition where high school students solve practical AI and machine learning challenges through hands-on Jupyter notebook problems. Participants tackle real-world scenarios in supervised learning, neural networks, natural language processing, and computer vision.
Who Should Compete?
- ▸ Malaysian high school students
- ▸ Passionate about AI and machine learning
- ▸ Python programming experience
- ▸ Previous medalists eligible for IOAI selection pathway
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for selection to the national team, students must meet the following criteria:
- ▸ Currently studying in Malaysia or are Malaysian citizens
- ▸ Have not started any university programme
- ▸ Strictly below the age of 20 on *Jul 1, 2026 (corrected from Aug 1)
Students who do not fit the eligibility criteria may join at our discretion if headcount permits. They can progress through the training and selection pipeline, however they will not be eligible for consideration to the national team.
