The Malaysia AI Olympiad is a one-day competition where high school students solve practical AI and machine learning challenges through hands-on Jupyter notebook problems. Participants tackle real-world scenarios in supervised learning, neural networks, natural language processing, and computer vision.
To be eligible for selection to the national team, students must meet the following criteria:
Students who do not fit the eligibility criteria may join at our discretion if headcount permits. They can progress through the training and selection pipeline, however they will not be eligible for consideration to the national team.

Online qualifiers ran Feb 21–22, 2026. Top 50 invitations have been sent to qualified participants.
MAIO 2026 and its qualifier serve as the selection funnel for our 2026 Training and Selection Programme, identifying and nurturing Malaysia's brightest AI talents for regional and international AI olympiads. The top* students in MAIO will be invited to join the programme.

No entrance fees are charged to participate in the online qualifiers or MAIO itself. The competition is free for all eligible students.
Students from government schools, private schools, and home-schooled students are all welcome to participate. We embrace diverse educational backgrounds and learning environments.
Diploma students are counted as being in their first year of undergraduate studies and will not be considered eligible for selection to the national team. However, they may participate in MAIO at our discretion if headcount permits.
Registrations are closed. Top 50 students have earned their invitation through the online qualifiers.
